AF or Autofocus is a focus mode that is performed when the shutter-release button is pressed halfway. Your camera typically has 3 AF modes, AF-S, AF-C and AF-A. AF-S (Single-servo AF) Focus will lock at the same position if the shutter-release button is held half-pressed. Focus lock allows you to change the composition without changing the selected focus subject. If you locked your focus on your main subject by keeping the shutter-release button half-pressed, you can then move the camera to frame different compositions while your main subject is still in focus. AF-C (Continuous-servo AF) The camera will continue to focus when the shutter-release button is held half-pressed. The camera continues to focus up to the moment when the button is pressed all the way. This mode allows you to keep moving objects in focus as the camera will detect and refocus with its movement. AF-A (Automatic AF) If you are unsure of which mode to use or are unable to predict how your subject will react, try the automatic mode, where the camera helps decide for you according to your composition!
