AFFORDABLE CARE ACT (ACA): The impact of a Republican-controlled Congress... I have been generally dissatisfied with Affordable Care Act both professionally because of the confusion it is creating at my office, and personally because none of my doctors were allowed to participate in the new narrow network I was forced into after Blue Shield of California canceled my previous policy and then told me that the old plan no longer exists to go back to. The GOP-controlled Congress is expected to try and repeal & weaken ACA. The Huffington Post (11/5, Young) reports that while Republicans have been “chomping at the bit to repeal Obamacare” since it was signed into law in 2010, even a GOP-controlled Congress is unlikely to undo the law. However, that won’t stop Republicans from forcing at least one vote on repeal. President Obama “would then swiftly veto it, but not before Democratic senators were forced to cast a vote very directly in support of Obamacare, which remains generally unpopular.” Additionally, the GOP might take aim at several provisions of the ACA, such as the individual mandate, the employer mandate, the Independent Payment Advisory Board, and the medical device tax. Some Senate Democrats would likely join them in eliminating or amending some of these measures. Half Of Voters On Tuesday Say ACA Went Too Far. Politico (11/4) reports that 47 percent of voters on Tuesday said the ACA, “which opened for enrollment a year ago, went too far.” Twenty-six percent said the law didn’t go far enough, according to CNN exit polls. Just 22 percent said the ACA was about right. According to the exit poll survey of 11,522 voters nationwide, 25 percent said the ACA was the most important issue facing the country. POSTED: 11/5/14
