AFRICA REAL ESTATE SOCIETY (AfRES) THE 13TH ANNUAL REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE THEME: “Unleashing the Value of African Real Estate Markets” VENUE: Serena Kigali Hotel, Kigali-Rwanda DATES: 23-26th October 2013 INTRODUCTION The African Real Estate Society (AfRES) is an affiliate of the International Real Estate Society (IRES), registered as non-profit organization that seeks to promote networking, research and education among property professionals across Africa. Thus, AfRES is a partner of North America (ARES), Asia (AsRES), Europe (ERES), the Pacific Rim (PRRES) and Latin America (LaRES). For over a decade running, AfRES organizes annual conferences, which bring together Professionals, Academics, Government and Civil Society involved in real estate development to discuss issues that relate to the sector in Africa. Thus, the conference attracts delegates from across Africa, Europe, USA and Asia and plays a central role in the development of Real Estate thinking in Africa as well as emerging markets. The Annual Conference provides a common platform for sharing international experiences on best practices as well as affording opportunities for establishing linkages and networks. There is a challenge of meeting the global objective of improving habitat especially for the poor by investing in low cost affordable houses. This can be achieved by identifying who are the key players that can meet the demands of housing sector in a sustainable and relevant manner. It is clear that public sector funding cannot meet this challenge alone. It is essential to involve the private sector and provide them means to access much needed technical assistance and financing to establish themselves and expand their outreach. The AfRES Conference achieves this by providing a platform whereby Housing Access enterprises or real estate developers can avail of technical, financial and business development expertise to refine their business model. More importantly, the conference is also a venue for these Housing access enterprises to meet investors, banks and various financial institutions. If you are an Investor in real estate development, looking for potential investments that provide financial, social and environmental returns, or an Entrepreneur who is looking for a program that can provide mentoring assistance to increase the likelihood of securing investment,or a player in the Housing sector that would like to learn about recent trends and best practices, please contact us today; GATSIROMBO Egide, Tel; Mob; (+250) 788525081 Email; gegide77@hotmail, irpv.rw@gmail Objectives of AfRES Conference One of the emerging realities in Africa is the ever-fast growing urban population and inability to provide sufficient serviced land for the accommodation of both the existing and incoming dwellers to the cities. African cities are particularly constrained on account of the looming general poverty in national economy but also for lack of necessary governance machinery that would enforce minimum standards in urban settlement for human habitation. A few of the old cities are growing to mega-cities and in order to ease growth pressure, some states have adopted ‘satellite cities’ as solution to their expansion problem. THEREFORE; The main objective of the conference is to bring academics and practitioners to share views on sustainable approaches that would enable fast urbanizing Africa to cater for the growing needs. The Conference will focus on issues that relate to financing urban growth, infrastructure development, emerging market investment and in a special way on affordable and low income housing. Key Discussion Area 1. Real estate finance 2. Sustainable real estate 3. New cities and real estate markets 4. Real estate education 5. Land management 6. Property and facilities management 7.
