AGP protest over rhino killings GUWAHATI – Members of the regional Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) will resort to a ten- hour fast from 8 am of August 28 in Guwahati in protest against the killing of the world famous one-horned rhino, handing over of Assam land to Bangladesh and spiraling rise in the prices of essential commodities, besides supporting the demand of the six ethnic groups for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status. In a statement here today, the party has said its members would send memorandums to the Prime Minister on the issues through their respective Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs). In the statement, signed by its general secretary Pradip Hazarika, the party has demanded Centre’s intervention into the incidents of rhino poaching. It has alleged that the State Government’s announcements to deploy Army personnel and Drone aircrafts to protect the animal and also to engage the CBI to investigate into the incidents of rhino poaching have been found to be hollow.
