AK Transport Commissioner effects movement of unapproved parks -Sets up monitoring teams BY PAULINUS NNAH Barely one month after assumption of office, the honourable commissioner for Transport in Akwa Ibom State, Prince Godwin Ntuk Udeh, has recorded an impressive start by effecting the movement of all parks that were hitherto operating in unauthorized locations to government-designated parks across Uyo Metropolis. Speaking at a pre-relocation meeting of all stakeholders in the transport sub-sector in the state, at the Civil Service Auditorium at Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, Uyo, last Monday, November 18, 2013, which was immediately followed by formal movement of Nsik Motors, the managers of Akwa Ibom Transport Corporation, to a temporary location at the unused Itam Abattoir, harped on the need for all players in transport business in the state to work toward being part of the peaceful and successful relocation of unauthorized park to government-approved ones by obeying the current call by government to do so. Appealing to the attendees, who he intermittently referred to as “the people of my constituency”, on the issue of relocation, Ntuk Udeh stressed on the imperative of all operators in the sub-sector to key in to the uncommon transformation policy of the Akpabio Administration in order to achieve all-round success, saying for the state to truly be seen in the light of being a holistically transformed society, the transport operations in the state must be totally sanitized in order for its aesthetics to be better appreciated. Addressing the stakeholders at Mr. Nsikak Johnny’s (Nsik Motors managing director’s) office shortly after the enlarged stakeholders meet, and prior to the ceremonial movement of AKTC to the provisional park at Itam, the honourable commissioner explained that he was delighted that after due consultations with all arms of government and the security agencies on the exercise, he and the members of entourage were at the place to witness the eventual compliance of Nsik Motors, the operators of AKTC. “We’re happy today that after due consultations with stakeholders, whose livelihood depends on the transport sub-sector, all arms of government and the security agencies, we’re here to witness compliance, to witness patriotism, to witness support, by the greatest of them all in the transport sub-sector in Akwa Ibom State our brother, the chief executive of Nsik Motors, the operators of AKTC, Mr. Nsikak Johnny,” Ntuk Udeh said. In his response, Mr. Johnny who expressed appreciation over the directive of government on the relocation exercise explained that his company had earlier in the day already commenced relocation. He urged all other operators affected in the government directive to follow suit immediately in order to be seen as partners in the greater Akwa Ibom project. Meanwhile, monitoring teams of the Akwa Ibom State Transport Ministry to oversee the removal of unauthorized parks were yesterday, November 21, 2013 inaugurated at the ministry’s auditorium. In his charge to the newly-set up teams, the Transport Commissioner noted that having noticed that some unauthorized park operators who had earlier agreed to the relocation order, added that “even with the few days of grace given them to tidy up and move to parks of their choice and see how we can, as a family, synchronize, accommodate ourselves and work together, we noticed that some of these persons have not so moved. “It is, therefore, on that note that you are chosen as operators and stakeholders in the system to assist this ministry and the government to ensure that this relocation notice is complied with. I want to say to the glory of God, that on behalf of the Government of Akwa Ibom State, on behalf of His Excellency, Chief (Dr.) Godswill Obot Akpabio, our visionary transformer and leader par excellence, we appreciate you and commend your effort to assist the ministry in ensuring compliance of the relocation order.” Responding, the leader of the overall monitoring team, Mr. Kingsley Akpan, promised to ensure that operation of unapproved parks in Uyo Metropolis and its environs would be a thing of the past. While Mr. Anietie Pius Etim was made the assistant leader, five monitoring teams specifically attached to the five major parks of Itam Long Distance, Itam Short Distance, Ikot Akpe, Nnung Oku, and Mbiabong were also inaugurated.
