AKSG Charges Border Communities To Exercise Restrains and Patience The Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Lady Valerie Ebe, has charged border communities in the state to exercise restrains and patience so as to allow due progress in resolving all outstanding inter-local government boundary disputes within and outside the state. Lady Ebe made this known during a joint meeting with the National Boundary Commission (NBC) and Akwa Ibom State Boundary Committee on intra-state boundary dispute cases, at the Old Exco Chambers, Government House, Uyo, on Wednesday. The Deputy Governor, who is also the Chairman of the State Boundary Committee, called on the stakeholders to enlighten the people on the need for peaceful co-existence, unity and justice. In his remark, the Director General of NBC, Dr. Mohammed Ahmad, noted that intrastate disputes exist due to the absence of delimitation records and non demarcation of the boundaries of local government areas. He commended the state boundary committee for their effort so far and pledged the Commission’s preparedness to partner the State in the resolution of boundary problems involving some local government areas in the state. Dr. Ahmad said the interactive session was at the instance of the National Assembly and the request by the Akwa Ibom State Government and urged the parties involved to cooperate with the team for an enduring peace and harmony. Earlier, the Secretary of the State Boundary Committee and the immediate past Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Bassey Ben-Eshiet, gave an outline of the inter-local government disputes before the Committee to include Mkpat Enin versus Ikot Abasi, Oruk Anam versus Ikot Abasi, Uruan versus Itu, Ikot Abasi versus Eastern Obolo, Uyo versus Ibesikpo Asutan, Eket-Esit Eket-Ibeno, and Uruan versus Okobo local government areas. The Chairmen of some of the local government councils made their brief presentation in respect to the disputes. A communiqué was issued at the end of the meeting and signed by the Deputy Governor, Lady Valerie, the Director-General of NBC, Dr. Mohammed Ahmad, the Chairman of the State Traditional Rulers’ Council, Edidem Udo Ntuk-Obom XII, and the Special Adviser in the Bureau of Political and Legislative Affairs, Prince Godwin Ntukudeh.
