ALBERTON/ VAAL TRIANGLE - The massive collision on the N12 East highway in Alberton involving a petrol tanker and multiple vehicles, has claimed at least two lives, and the number of fatalities is expected to rise. ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring, described the scene as absolute carnage, with car parts spread across the highway. Meiring said paramedics are currently on the scene and have so far counted two fatalities, nine critical patients and around 47 people with minor to moderate injuries. He added that it is expected that the fatality figure will rise. Meiring quoted paramedics as saying that the accident was caused by a petrol tanker allegedly losing control due to mechanical failure and piling into around 22 cars.
