ALL PROGRESSIVE CONGRESS:FROM SAINT TO JEZEBEL The merger of ACN,ANPP,CPC and a faction of APGA to form the All Progressive Congress (APC) early this year had raised the hope of Nigerians Of having a vibrant opposition party since the return to democratic dispensation in 1999.the hope of many was based on the premise of the ideology which the party will be run coupled with the defection of five rebel governors from peoples democratic party and the cross-carpeting of parliamentarians ranging from state to the national assembly. This was followed by the inauguration of national working committee of the party headed by Chief Bisi Akande!during the inauguration, echeleons of the party claimed that internal democracy which presupposes fierce competition among party members for elective positions will be the guiding principle of the party while fighting corruption will be its watchword? The emerging party suddenly change from rug to rag when national leadership of APC handed over party structure from founding fathers of the party in Kwara,Kano,Rivers, Adamawa and Sokoto states to the five disloyal governors who defected from PDP.this however pave way for cerebral personalities like Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau,Dele Belgore,Buba Marwa and Muhammed Abacha to dump the party. it was soon followed by the crisis which rock the party convention where Tinubu single handedly handpick all members of the national working committee. the worse of it all was the eclipse and humilliation of the party in the last gubernatorial election in Ekiti State. how can Nigerians believe in a party which is sympathetic to Boko Haram? How can a party which prohibit dissent voice in the name of party discipline survive?how can a party which preach against internal democracy prosper, the defection of Honourable Opeyemi Bamidele who is the only grassroot mobilizer of the party in Ekiti State to Labour party lend credence to this and eventually aid PDP triumph in the electoral contest?how will the popularity of a party which gear its policy towards the Creme De La Creme of the society not wane?successful parties throughout the world have always been built around all members whether poor or rich but the oligarch style of APC where a single person will pick several governorship candidates and other for elective position in his bedroom does not augur well for democracy? The corruptive tendency of APC governors is also alarming,Lagos state has borrowed about 800 million dollars from various monetary organizations since the assumption of office of the Fashola Led administration and yet Lagos State University Students are paying astronomical tuition fee desipite the fact that the state government generate close to 30 billion naira internally through the obnoxious and exorbitant tax levied on poor citizens who are native beggars of the street,Lagos state also recieve 17 billion naira from the federal allocation every month.my question are, where are all these gargantuan funds spent?why is infrastructural deficit still plaguing a state acclaimed as the mega city of Africa. The Monumental corruption in Rivers state under the leadership of Rotimi Amaechi is a calamity to governance and administration! despite the humongous revenue allocation from the federal government to Rivers state they still borrow money from various financial organization. Rivers State last year bought a jet worth 50 million dollar despite owing civil servants five months salary arrears with unemployed graduates roaming the street. While it is axiomatic that APC will lose 4 state in 2015!the internal wrangling facing the party in Oyo State where the 3 senators from the party have defected to the opposition!thesame can be said of Ogun State where all the national assembly contingent from the state que behind Chief Segun Osoba. Nassarawa and Adamawa state is not left out where Tanko-al-Makura loot state treasury furtively with APC members decamping en masse to the PDP while Murtala Nyakos leadership style of looting have the battered image of the party in Adamawa State. If APC does does not change its strategies and devise new means of governance and wooing supporters then its beffitting burial will become inevitable.
