ALLENDALE AT THE MOVIES: In doing some research related to yesterday’s posting on The Monkees, we came across the trailer for the 1968 movie “Skidoo,” produced and directed by Otto Preminger. This Hollywood take on the counterculture was a box-office flop, and was slammed by virtually every movie critic at the time. Vincent Canby, writing in the New York Times, recommended it be seen by those “whose minds need pressing by a heavy, flat object.” Precisely because this curious relic of the ‘60s was considered so bad and has gone largely unseen since, “Skidoo” has attained a near-mythical status. If you watch the trailer and get hooked, “Skidoo” is not – we repeat not – available for checkout through the Pasadena Public Library, but it looks like the DVD can be purchased through Amazon.
