Family, friends and my wonderful staff at Gem Designs. On Monday the 21st this last week at mid day. Gem Designs were handed an eviction notice and were ordered to leave Sam Levys Village in Borrowdale by 4.00pm on Wednesday the 23rd July and effective 20 hours. Avril and I are, for the first time in our married life, officially unemployed and, to say the least, devastated. For those of you not in the know. After the fire in the shop in October 2013, the Insurance Company that we were insured with, has not paid out a penny/cent in compensation for the fire despite settling the claim. Not only did they renege on the interim payment and withhold it, they refused to pay the settled amount and insisted that I take a figure US$80,00.00 lower than the original figure. I refused that offer and our lawyer then served an order founded by me on the Insurance Company to pay the amount they offered as an interim payment, or go to the High Court to face a judgement and Liquidation. They have another five days to comply or have a High Court judgement served on them. Unfortunately our landlords (who had been patient thus far) have not waited for the judgement or payment and closed us down. We never got a chance to get into the New shop. My girls, Charlene, Natasha (Tash) and Tara, the guys Douggie, Lawrence, David and Patfell have all been wonderful and supportive despite not getting their salaries this month. I couldnt wish for a better crew. Lots of tears spilled when we finally closed the doors. Our biggest asset (What is owed to us by the Insurance Company) could still materialise!!! But we cant rely on that. Sorry for the long sad missive of our demise but we will get up and move on. Life is a Pork Chop. A challenge that has to be met head on
