AMBASSADOR FARUKH AMIL HOSTS BANQUET IN HONOUR OF CHAIRMAN JAPAN-PAKISTAN PARLIAMENTARIANS FRIENDSHIP Islamabad, June 27, 2013 The Ambassador of Pakistan to Japan, Mr. Farukh Amil, hosted a dinner in honour of Mr. Seishiro Eto, Chairman of Japan-Pakistan Parliamentarians Friendship League (JPPFL) at Pakistan Residence. Also joining were the former Foreign Minister Mr. Koichiro Gemba and Parliamentarian Mr. Hiroshi Sakurai. The Japanese Parliamentarians applauded the peaceful transition from one democratically elected government to the next one, describing it as a most important milestone in the political development of Pakistan. The Ambassador informed the Parliamentarians that the Government of Prime Minister Mr. Mohammad Nawaz Sharif attached great importance to solving the energy crisis in Pakistan and also the necessity of undertaking major infrastructural projects in urban transportation, energy pipelines and dams. The transnational energy pipelines would provide a peace enhancement benefit to the entire region. The Ambassador highlighted that Pakistan was serious about developing its infrastructure, roads, airports and renewing its urban transportation systems such as the KCR project. He highlighted the agreement with Pakistan and Iran gas pipeline which was signed between the Presidents of Pakistan and Iran. He stressed that the Government of Japan, with all its technological knowhow and history of providing valuable assistance to Pakistan in development, would be an ideal 21st Century partner in Pakistan’s energy and transportation development plans. Mr. Gemba commenting on the strengthening of democracy in Pakistan expressed appreciation of the ratio of women parliamentarians in both houses of Pakistan’s Parliament. He said that Pakistan’s efforts to empower women in politics were commendable. The Ambassador reiterated that the Japanese corporations operating in Pakistan should accept bright Pakistani students on internships in Japan. The Parliamentarians welcomed this proposal and committed to pursue with the concerned corporations to get the idea implemented in its true spirit. The Ambassador noted that Pakistan intended to learn from the cutting edge technologies of Japan especially in the field of engineering and management. He said that Pakistan had a great potential in its youth which needed to be made productive through imparting technical education. In this respect the Japanese triangle of ‘Academia-Innovation-Industry’ should be emulated in Pakistan. The exchange of Parliamentary delegations between Pakistan and Japan was also discussed. The Chairman JPPFL expressed the hope that a Parliamentary delegation from Japan would visit Pakistan in the near future to further strengthen the already existing friendly relations between the two countries.
