AMENDMENTS TO THIS MORNINGS FORECAST: A large area of thundery - TopicsExpress

AMENDMENTS TO THIS MORNINGS FORECAST: A large area of thundery rain is developing over North East France, and it now appears that this will brush over Guernsey through tonight, with a significant risk of further showers continuing through Friday morning. The wind is still expected to be a gentle north westerly, and we should still get some sunshine, but we will probably have to wait until lunchtime for that. The reduction in sunshine hours means that the maximum temperatures will probably be about a degree lower than previously forecast, so I am expecting about 12°C in most places and 13°C around St Peter Port. The rest of this mornings forecast still stands, so I have repeated it below: During Friday evening the cloud will thicken, from the west, and then a band of rain will sweep through during the middle of the night. SATURDAY: Now we are closer to the time, it appears that the worst weather will have moved through by dawn. Daylight hours on Saturday might even be quite bright at times, but it will be mainly cloudy and dry, with just the odd passing shower. The top temperature will be between 12 and 13°C but in many places will feel cooler, due to a fresh south to south-westerly wind. The best shelter will be around Portelet in the west, and St Peter Port in the east. West coast waves should pick up to about 4 during the afternoon, as the tide pushes towards its 5:31pm high. SUNDAY: Once again the overnight period will have been rather wet, but this time, frequent showers will probably continue late into the morning. It should become dry and bright though, as we move into the afternoon. The wind is due to start off as a fresh southerly, but veer to a moderate westerly as the day progresses. Surfers should therefore pounce on the early morning session, on the west coast. For other activities, it would be better to wait until later, and then head to the eastern side of the island. The top temperature should be 12 or 13°C again. Keep checking the updates and feel free to ask me questions about any aspects of the weather.
