AMONGST MEDUSA, POSEIDON AND OTHER MYTHS ππππ Medusa was originally a golden-haired, fair maiden, who, as a priestess of Athena, was devoted to a life of celibacy; however, after being wooed by Poseidon and falling for him, she forgot her vows and married him. For this offence, she was punished by the goddess in a most terrible manner. Each wavy lock of the beautiful hair that had charmed her husband was changed into a venomous snake; her once gentle, love-inspiring eyes turned into blood-shot, furious orbs, which excited fear and disgust in the mind of the onlooker; whilst her former roseate hue and milk-white skin assumed a loathsome greenish tinge. ππ And now, a bit of Trivia: The Versace Logo: Gianni Versace was intensely interested in Greek mythology and classical art. He was born in Southern Italy, a region which was closely associated with the classical Greek traditions. He drew inspiration for his trend-setting designs from this Hellenic heritage. The Medusa emblem picked up by Versace became an iconic motif in fashion as it evoked sheer authority, attractiveness and fatal fascination; three basic attributes of Medusa. The logo also expressed the fact that Versaceβs designs stunned people with their absolute beauty and made them stop dead in their tracks. ππ
