AN OPEN LETTER TO THE STATE OF OSUN GOVERNOR RAUF AREGBESOLA ON THE PERPETUAL SLAVERY OF OLORUNDA LOCAL GOVERNMENT DISTRICTS. BY TUNDE ADEYEMI His Excellency, Sir, with the gloomy condition of mind Im expressing this unfortunate, sad and long suffering about the perpetual slavery we (Olorunda LG districts-Oba-Ile Ward 9, Oba-Oke Ward 10 and Ilie Ward 11) have been long ago passing through from the hands of Osogbo-Olorunda political leaders. Furthermore, we (Ilie, Oba-Oke and Oba-Ile) have been under Osogbo since 1954 with each Ward in each town, struggling to have more without permitting us. At the same time, some of our nodal towns like Ifon, Ilobu, Erin-Osun and even Ejigbo were then at each Ward in each community. And now, no one mentioned above that has less than five Wards today. Besides, under Olorunda LG we (Oba-Ile, Oba-Oke and Ilie) are and which was created in 1987. Mr. Olagunoye (the present Alie of Ilie) happened to be the first Chairman by coincidence of the creation of this local government because he was the Vice Chairman of the then Chairman of Osogbo LG-Alhaji Adejare before the creation of the new one in 1987. In 1991, Senator Bayo Salami won Chairmanship Seat in Olorunda LG along with Mr. Adeboye (from Ilie) as his Vice Chairman. In the following year, 1992, Osun State was born and towards the end of that year, Senator Bayo Salami resigned his post, handed over the machinery of the local government to his Vice-Mr. Adeboye and contested for the governorship election under the umbrella of NRC. But he lost the election for Senator Isiaka Adeleke from SDP. Moreover, from the inceptions of both Olorunda and Osogbo LGs and till this moment, Osogbo political leaders have never allowed the Olorunda LG districts politicians to be elected to the post of chairmanship in both Olorunda (currently we are) and Osogbo (we were then) LGs. They dont also give out the post of Secretary to the OLG to the districts. But only give out the post of Vice Chairman to the districts in which it has been rotated among the three communities for years ago. And this is seriously horrible. At this juncture, the elections of the Senate, Representative, State House of Assembly and Local Government are fast approaching in which various contestants are running helter-skelter in other to win the favours of their leaders. And these Osogbo-Olorunda political leaders have still determined to reserve or put all these elected posts into their pockets for their own sons and daughters without any positive concern for the districts candidates, whereas we have a viable candidate in person of Barrister Tiamiyu Sulaiman Adegboyega who comes from district and currently contests for the Osun State House of Assembly as an Honourable under Olorunda State Constuency. And they dont want to release any elected post to the districts despite the fact dat Osogbo-Olorunda indigen (Mrs Titilaoye-Tomori) holds and still continues to hold the post of Deputy Governor for the next four years by the virtue of winning the last guber poll. In closing, our amiable governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, we know that you are a godly one who loves to maintain humanitarian, an equality before the law, all animals are equal and not animals are more equal than the others. We (Oba-Ile, Oba-Oke and Ilie in Olorunda LG) appeal to you to intervene into this burning issue and set us free from this perpetual slavery by putting an end to the deprivations of our civil rights. Thanks. Yours faithfully, Tunde Adeyemi. (Ward 9, Oba-Ile)
