AN OPEN STATUS TO MY FELLOW PASTORS AND PREACHERS: This Land Bank - TopicsExpress

AN OPEN STATUS TO MY FELLOW PASTORS AND PREACHERS: This Land Bank Legislation (proposed) is a very, very, very critical issue. This is going to dramatically shape the future of our neighborhoods and the ostensibly the destiny our the people we lead and serve, as well as their progeny. Just imagine, without the power that acompanies land ownership and occupaton, you have no vote and no voice and as well, your potential for a vote or voice as been severly undermined. And did you know that had it gone through in January when it was proposed its implementation would have started this month? Did you know this billl was introduced by seemingly well-intentioned carpet-baggers (Councilpersons who districts would not be forseeably affected) without the input from the Councilpersons who represent the areas that willl be disproportionally affected (Homewood, Hill District, Perry South, Hazelwood, etc) We are potentially facing an modern-day exile in plain sight, a disenfranchisement of struggling class people and a transfer of land/power. Please see my personal thoughts indicated in my note as well as the the websites of City Councilmen Burgess and Lavell There is an effort amend the current bill, which as it stands now would give un-checked power to a virtually unaccountabile group of people to acquire, sell (re) distribute and transfer a wealth of land (already seized property, abandoned property and tax-delinquent property). The bill as it stands needs heavy amending. It is ostensibly reconstructive bill surgery All this while the city alreads has establishments, agencies and entities already in place to address the issues and mitigate the crises we have in our poor and blighted communities. These institutions, as I see it have been under-performing and under-utilitzed due lack of attention, coordination, vision and empowerment. Why create more bureacracy? Right now, the simple majority 5 out of 9 votes passes the bill as it is now (which would devastating). Those 5 councilpersons are essentially carpetbaggers on this issues (meaning their district will not be signifantly affected at least not in a foreseeable way). 4 councilpersons have banded together in order to mobilize their communities, which ironically are the communities that will be most affected. Pastors, will you stand? And where will you stand? This land is your land...this my land....
