ANIMAL CRUELTY! Our friends at the Sunriver Nature Center - TopicsExpress

ANIMAL CRUELTY! Our friends at the Sunriver Nature Center brought us this young, female Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel. She appeared to be having trouble using her left rear leg. A worker at the marina in Sunriver witnessed someone throw a rock and strike this creature, rendering her helpless and leaving her stunned, uncoordinated and suffering head trauma. The worker rescued her and brought her to Sunriver Nature Center. These ground squirrels often come up to people, in search of food. Most people enjoy watching and feeding them. The poor animals dont know which people are going to be nice and which ones will be mean (thankfully, the latter is fewer and farther between). We, at HDWRR, wonder how somebody who does something so cruel can sleep at night!? This youngster is not feeling very well. She is unable to use her right rear leg and has minimal use of her left rear leg. She topples over sideways from a lack of balance. Despite all of this, she tries to hold on to a piece of apple as she takes a few bites. We administered subcutaneous fluids with Vitamin B Complex and an anti-inflammatory. The B Complex is providing nutritional support for the nervous system. She is resting quietly tonight.
