ANNOUNCEMENT HEADS UP to everyone. As I learned today, the inkblot project has an absolute 0% chance of being shown at Cotton Candy Machine once its finished. Because I was excited about the prospect of potentially being able to show art there I contacted about 8 artists regarding if they would want to participate. I got ahead of myself, but after the conversation in the gallery the owner seemed genuinely down with what I was making and open to seeing it progress until all the pieces were done. I told the artists that I was coordinating to have the show exhibited at Cotton Candy Machine, as that was the place I intended to go back to once more pieces were complete. Although I told the artists I was coordinating with that I was planning to exhibit it there, I did not tell them that it was definitive. One of those 8 artists forwarded my email to the owner of the gallery. Upon getting wind of my email not only did the owner of the gallery call me and berate me for using their name to advertise the project to artists but he threatened to go public regarding my exhibit if I didnt clarify with the people I emailed that the show would definitely have nothing to do with the space. In addition, he also told me that the artists I emailed actually contacted him and were laughing at the fact that I thought I could present art there. He told me that I was an amateur. NOT ONLY did that leave me feeling disrespected, but it disrespects all of the wonderful artists I am working with and all of the time and hard work theyve been putting into their pieces for this show. Simply because of how I worded a sentence in an email that I wrote at 2am to 8 people out of 100, all of the work I have done to try and get this shown at the space has amounted to nothing and left me feeling embarrassed. I will continue to work my ass off to find a good space that does this project justice, but that is where I am at right now. I love this gallery and the artists whom they represent, but as a 19 year old artist trying to make their self into something from nothing I will not stand by and be humiliated or pushed by ANYONE regardless of how popular they are. I didnt come to New York to get stepped on. Look for further updates as I go, and my apologies for getting your hopes up if youre involved in this project with me.
