Cairo isnt all pyramids, it is a massive 20-million-peopled sprawling concrete jungle. In the vicinity of ancient Memphis, Cairo, as a capital, hosts the longest, thinnest country in the world. To live there tests the spirit... it is noisy, crowded, battered and worn, forever on the run, and plagued with litter. This picture reminded me of how a similar bright blue plastic carrier bag helped to change my life and was instrumental in a measure of my enlightenment. To quote Yogananda Paramahansa If you want to change your life, change the way you think... This picture also reminded me of my last day in Cairo, on the Giza Plateau, the night before the Revolution starting in 2011 when I experienced a degree of rage at the litter fouling one of the greatest sacred sites in the world and the site of the enduring mystery we know and love as The Great Pyramids of Giza. Nadia Mounier and Mai Al-Shazly, present a photography series discussing the dwindling green spaces amid Cairo’s concrete high rises.
