ANORAKS ..... Winterlude #3 .. . An artists impression of one of the very early LMS Royal Scot class 4-6-0s. . This very old print is from a tattered Railway World Colour Album published in association with Ian Allan publications, which I imagine dates way back into the 1950s. .. Many pages have been ripped out which is why I secured this little volume for only a few pence many yonks ago! .. I cannot tell you who painted this picture because the acknowledgements at the rear of the book are also missing, as indeed, are several of the colour plates! The image shows a Royal Scot class locomotive, #6109 (later renumbered #46109 by British Railways) Royal Engineer, passing at speed through Bushey Station, Hertfordshire, during the winter of 1927. The engine is seen in its original form and sporting the LMS fine maroon livery! ..On the side of her smoke box can clearly be seen the Glaswegian builders insignia.. making her one of the famous Glasgow Diamonds designed and built by the North British Locomotive Company .. At this point the engine would have only been a few months old, having been introduced by its designers in July of that year. .The train is the down Royal Scot express!
