ANOTHER GREAT MEMORY! There was alot my Mama taught me, even though they didnt turn out to be my passion. I still cherish the quiet moments we spent together just talking and doing stuff together. Alot of kids cant relate to the things we did back in the old days. Well, thats what I call them. So, I looked at my Mamas old foot pedal Singer sewing machine the other day and of course thought of her teaching me how to sew on it. Its not an easy task on one of these old things, but once you get the hang of it, its the only the only way to sew. I cant even use the electric kind for some reason. I guess because I was used to this kind of sewing machine. On rainy days, when my Mama couldnt work in her garden she would retire her time to that old sewing machine. I would lay across her bed and listen to the rain and her. The coolest thing I can remember about laying on Mamas bed when it was raining out would be the sound of the train. We didnt live close to the ttacks but when it rained it sounded like the train was close by, and when the church bells would ring when it rained made them sound closer too. My Mama would say I love the sound of the rain and the smell it makes. You could always smell the rain before it got here. Well, back to sewing. She loved to sew. And I mean she made everything. She made my Bannys aprons and slips. She even made Bannys underware (Bloomers) Ha!Ha! She didnt really need a pattern, she would make her own. She showed me how to change the thread and needle on this old machine and the leather belt that made it go. I cherished the time she took with me and we both were caught up in the sewing thing for hours at the time. I can probably sew just about anything on that sewing machine. I hope I can find a belt for it, because Im getting that old feeling to sew something. Maybe some curtains. Something simple. I havent sewn on it in years, but Im pretty sure that it will come right back to me. Thanks Mama for showing me ways to survive without relying on the world. Great Mamas last forever!
