*** ARREST FOR CREDIT CARD FRAUD, ONGOING INVESTIGATION *** On 1/11/14, a victim came to Glassboro Police to report fraudulent charges taken out of his checking account. The victim relayed that he was still in possession of his debit card and did not make the charges, which occurred in Glassboro. Investigation into the charges revealed that a single female has been repeatedly making fraudulent charges using gift cards with other people’s bank account information on them for at least several months. The subsequent investigation identified the female as Chelsea Laster, 24 years old, of Park Crest Village Apartments in Glassboro. She was placed under arrest and initially charged with fraudulent use of a credit card(forgery) and theft, and lodged in the Salem County Jail in lieu of $7,500 full cash bail. A search warrant was requested for her apartment as well as two vehicles she operates. The search warrant was approved by a Superior Court Judge and executed at approximately 9:00 p.m. The search of the apartment found the following: • Hundreds of blank gift cards, some of which did not have account numbers imprinted on them. • A credit card imprint machine • A credit card swipe machine • Three computers • Numerous receipts • Approximately $900 in U.S. Currency • A small amount of marijuana and paraphernalia. Additional charges are pending against Ms. Laster as well as her boyfriend, Tarik Townsend, 26 years old of Glassboro and New York. We are currently evaluating all of the evidence to determine the extent of the fraud. Anyone with any additional information is asked to contact Ptl. Julie Howery, #961 at [email protected].
