ARRRARRRR!!! Now this just piss me off to no end. NEW LENOX WAR VETERANS MEMORIAL VANDALIZED NEW LENOX, Ill. (WLS) -- Vandals severely damaged a war memorial in the heart of southwest suburban New Lenox over the weekend. Five large slabs of granite stood at the memorial site located at 1 Veterans Parkway in the southwest suburb, each paying tribute to a different branch of the military. Four of those stone slabs were knocked over and cracked sometime Saturday night. Only one was left standing. The memorial stones are exceptionally heavy and were set into the ground with steel rods. It would have taken considerable force to topple them. Authorities said the vandals may have used bikes or four-wheelers to knock them down. Police are looking for those responsible and are processing clear fingerprints left at the scene. The local Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW) quartermaster said the granite blocks are not expected to be salvageable. The estimated cost to replace each monument is $3,000-$5,000. The VFW is taking donations to help restore the memorial at the BMO Harris Bank in New Lenox. Donors should label donations with Attn: Veterans Memorial Fund.
