ART FARMER (1928-1999) was born on this date. Art was a true individual, whose gentle style was warm and lyrical, although he could heat things up when he wanted to, as he does in the second tune here. I had the good fortune to see Art many times over the years, and he always delivered. Art started out on trumpet, eventually adding the flugelhorn (seen here) to his arsenal. In his final years, Art played a custom instrument dubbed the flumpet which had characteristics of both horns.
