ATTENTION NEW ZIKITES: SOME FACTS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT ACCOMMODATION, BY MURUAKO EMMANUEL Once again, I Muruako Emmanuel congratulate all the newly admitted students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka (UNIZIK). I know a lot of you are currently eager to start rushing down to school to start processing your admission. Well, that’s right and nice but on a personal opinion I think you should wait till next week Monday as the E- clearance module is yet to be updated on the university website. After admission, what follows next is clearance and accommodation enquiries. Questions are already been asked by many of you about the best possible place to live in consideration of many factors like price, comfort and security. Mind you, your success here is like 90% dependent on your choice of lodge. Therefore I found it necessary to enlighten you on issues relating to school accommodation based on personal experience and research. Be reminded however that in making your choice you must first ask and answer these questions yourself; 1. What kind of family do I come from? Rich/poor, disciplined/anything goes. 2. What is my aim on campus? To succeed/fail 3. What kind of person do I want o be tomorrow? Bad/good 4. What is my discipline level? Easily influenced/ highly principled 5. Can I stay with someone without problems? Yes/no 6. Do I want to be a victim of campus violence and vices? Yes/no Now that you are done answering these questions, you should know that Unizik is divided into Temporary site, Permanent Site and other places. For what is worth, the Vice Chancellor prefers University Hostels, Emelda Hostel and Holy Family Youth Village Hostels to others. This is because these areas are closer to the authorities and better secured. Apart from these places, another location preferable is permanent site (Ifite precisly). Other accomodation locations are Amansea, Regina, Temp Site, Eke-Awka side etc. Temp site is characterized is full of fun, flexing and enjoyment. Permanent site has all of this plus safety, proximity to school, conducive and academic friendly. SCHOOL HOSTEL The school hostel is made up of female and male blocks. OTHER PLACES You are free to explore accommodation outside any of the described places but do well to inquire about the security in the area. Note that cost of living off campus is rather on a high side and that has been the greatest challenge of every Zikite. However, efforts are already in place to reduce rent charges off campus. You can also house someone in need or share a room with another person off campus. Furthermore, remember that where you live does not show the strength of your wealth, it is in the size of your brain so please keep away from all hostels placed under embargo by the current Students Leadership. Also, all admitted students who have no place to check in while waiting for an accommodation can contact me and members of my team as we are ready to give you shelter till you get yours regardless of your gender.
