If anyone is interested I can make them available, to save dragging that stuff around the planet. blue skies Andy So if you would like to borrow some caming gear from Andy once you get to Perris Valley, please contact him direct at : arowan@yarrawonga This in from Sandy and Skye who are looking after the IHOP [International House of Parachutists location on the DZ at Perris Valley]: Hi Greg For the next update would you please include the following: We have 4 vacant spaces left in the iHop, 1 or 3 must be female because of room configurations. (5 beds, 7 beds, 12 beds and a double) The double room is tentatively taken (waiting for deposit). There are a further 6 reservations that have been made without deposits, we will let these go (in consultation with the current reservation holder) if deposits are not received and someone else does pay a deposit. Cheers Kind Regards Sandy Glenday OK – That IHOP Information once again: There are 26 beds to fill at $480.00 USD per night, which works out to $18.50 p/n each. There is also a bond/deposit required in the event of damage, so this will be an additional $18.50per person. If the 26 beds are not filled, the cost will be split amongst everyone booked. So if every night is booked, it should work out to the following: 13 nights @ $18.50 per person = $240.50 + $18.50 deposit/bond TOTAL $259 The dates that everyone is required to be there if attending both camps will be from 19th May - 31st May. These dates are confirmed with IHOP, but if you were looking to stay at the house outside of these dates, and want to take advantage of a group booking, speak to Skye who may be able to coordinate another group if the dates align. In the event that there arent enough people, or dates dont match, then you will need to organise your own accommodation outside of these dates. We will be taking 50% deposits, payable via Bpay to a cash passport, which goes across in USD so we are paying the correct amount, and all deposits are non-refundable if people pull out. Sandy and Skye will be the contact people responsible for the house, so a copy of the house rules will be sent to all who pay their deposit, to ensure we get our bond back, and leave the house as we received it. To book your room, please fill out the attached form, and send back to Skye. Once we receive enough bookings, we will send out your confirmation with instructions on how to pay your deposit. Please send all date requests to [email protected] or on 0426 241 676, and your deposit questions/payment info [email protected] or on 0407 829 222. The IHOP booking form is attached once again as well. More Accommodation Options: Christy Frikken of Perris Fury fame has this on offer for us Aussies: Christy has a house, around 10 miles from the DZ, two queen bedrooms, 4 bunk beds in an open area, two bathrooms, high speed internet. She charges $120 per night for the house or $100 if the stay is more than 10 days. It is currently available for May The two Queen Rooms are now taken, however the 4 Bunk Beds are still available, so if you want a quiet bed in a comfy house about 6 miles from the DZ please let me know ASAP. ¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬___________________________________________________________________________¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬_______________________________________ Now one of our AWESOME State Mentors has been doing a ton of great work in the background, I have placed in the latest E-Mail - that she regularily sends out to her Victorian Skydivers, as I feel it is just so applicable and on the money for us all to read and absorb ! Great Job Miss Kelly ! PERRIS 2015 – THE COUNTDOWN IS ON! Well, it’s all really happening. Registrations are open for Perris 2015, and they have been ticking along really well. Here is the registration page: p3skydiving/info_2015_05_AUS.php… Don’t forget there is 15 minutes free tunnel time for two lucky persons among the first 75 to register. I believe we are getting quite close to that number, so you’d better hurry up! Now, we all need to buckle down and prepare ourselves for the journey. We all need to do our own bit to take the best possible team to California to contribute to the record attempt. That means helping each other, motivating each other and pushing ourselves to be as good as we possibly can. PRACTICALITIES If you want skydiver discounts for any of the local Motels, then you book through them directly via email, NOT through any online booking sites. You have to directly request the skydiver rate. Here is a list of nearby accommodation: https://skydiveperris/facilities.aspx Scott Clarke is offering to arrange a group car hire. Anyone interested in sharing a 12 - 15 seat van for the duration of the Perris Aussie Bigway Record Attempt next May can contact me at simlark@yahoo . I have a current quote for $1500 USD + insurance. The full insurance package is about another $30 per day so I am hoping to get it down to around $1700 USD for the duration. That will include all insurance, collision waivers, extra drivers and unlimited mileage but not include fuel. It would be great to have a 10 way split but if there is not sufficient interest I will source a smaller van & hopefully keep costs around the same. So, it should be around $170 - $180 USD per person + a share of fuel costs. Dates are 17 May - 01 June inclusive but flexible. The intention is to keep the van at the IHOP but have it available to all persons that are sharing regardless of accomodation. Let me know ASAP to start working out details. Cheers Scotty If you want to share transport or rooms or anything else, put a note on the Aussie bigways facebook site. TRAVEL INSURANCE.. Make sure you have travel insurance which covers skydiving accidents. US hospitals charge a fortune for even the most minor ailments. Insurance companies often have skydiving exclusions. (I used one last year which did cover skydiving, and this year it doesnt! Check the exclusions.) JUMPING PREPARATION / EXPECTATIONS Records don’t come easy. Nobody is buying the right to secure a place on a record attempt. All you are doing is securing an opportunity to train and try out for the attempt. That means getting yourself to the best possible position that you can over the next six months. When you turn up in Perris, you should be able to say that you’ve done the best you reasonably can to prepare your jumping skills for this challenge. Many of Australia’s most experienced bigway skydivers are pushing themselves to get better, even if they have thousands of jumps under their belts, and recent hundred-way-plus achievements. If it’s good enough for these people to aim higher, then it’s good enough – or indeed expected – for everyone with less bigway experience to also push the edges of their own envelopes. I have heard of people going to bigways in the past with the attitude: “I’ll be right because there are many highly experienced people to pull it together, and all I have to do is get in and hang on.” That is so not true! Yes, there will be highly experienced people. There’ll also be medium experienced people with good skills and determined attitudes. And there will be uber-talented newbies, who’ll surprise everyone with their capability and confidence. But, if we want to get 120+ of them in a record, then every single one of those individuals needs to be performing at their very best. They need to raise the bar for performance, jump after jump after jump. WHAT TO TAKE If you don’t already have spare jumpsuits, then keep your eyes open for ones to borrow or buy before you travel. You must take a range of suits, plus weights, big baggy T-shirts and all the equipment you’ll need. A full face helmet is highly advised. You won’t be allowed to jump camera, so consider leaving your camera bits at home. The SQUARE ONE shop on the DZ is a skydiver’s dream shopping destination. They will hire out weight, so you don’t have to carry it in your suitcase. If you use medication, get an advance supply and a letter from your doctor, just in case it is not available – or has limitations – in the US. THE NEXT SIX MONTHS In the next six months, really work on all your exit positions. Tighten up the gaps to get everyone out of the plane quicker. Improve your efficiency at getting to your slot. Hone your no momentum docks. Be strong. Own your slot. Fly quietly. Contribute to the formation by matching the fall rate and continuing to fly when you are docked on it. Flatten your track and feel yourself really shoot across the sky. Get there faster. Finesse your arrival. Track further. Make every jump count between now and May 20. We all want the dream to come true, so let’s all do our bit to make it happen! Not planning to go? Well, if you’ve read all the way to this point, perhaps you should be. C’mon… you know you want to! __________________________________________________________________________________ Lastly some news from our Supporters: I-Fly Downunder: On your way to the US there is an opportunity to spend some time in the newest and most awesome[est] Wind Tunnel around in Sydney ……………………………….
