Sannidhanam is ready for MAKARAVILAKKU MAHOTSAVAM. It was on MAKARA SAMKRAMAM Lord Ayyappa after defeating demon Mahishasura, merged with the Dharma Shastha Murti(idol) at Sabarimala . The evening deeparadhana is the most important event of the day. The three-day procession carrying the Thiruvabharanam (Bhagawan’s Golden ornaments given by Pandalam Raja) will reach the sanctum sanctorum (SreeKovil) before deeparadhana. Meelshanthi will receive Thiruvabharanam inside the Sreekovil and the Nada will close for deeparadhana by adorning the attire in gold on the idol of Lord Ayyappa. During this time Bhagawan’s celestial star UTHRAM NAKSHATHRAM will appear on the sky.. Swamiyee Saranamayyappa…. After Deepardhana when the Thirunada opens , Lord Ayyappa appears before the devotees fully attired in the Thiruvaabharanam … Swamiyeeeeeeeee Saranamayyappa….After Deparadhana the divine Makaravilakku will appear three trimes… in the distant hill at Ponnambalameddu.Legends says that the tribal who were harassed by the demon Mahishasura first lit the light at Ponnambalameddu to celebrate the slaying of their tormentor by Ayyappa. That custom still continues ……. The light procession of Malikappuram devi will soon take place after the athazha pooja and the procession will happen at 10 PM every day till January 19……. Malikapurathamma is the buffalo-headed demoness Mahishi who got shapa moksha (reprieve from curse) from Lord Ayyappa. Goddess Malikapurathamma is worshiped as the eternal consort-in-waiting of Ayyappan. Devi wished to marry Ayyappa Swami, but Lord Ayyappa told her that he is a Brahmachari. Bhagawan asked her to reside near Sannidhanam and he will marry her when no first timer (Kanni Ayyappa) visits Sabarimala Ayyappa temple….
