#AZAPO Congress convenes 6 Dec to deliberate on reinvigorating the party, making it a fighting force for the poor, landless and marginalized AZAPO TO CHART ITS WAY FORWARD AND ELECT NEW LEADERSHIP Johannesburg – 4 December 2014: The Azanian People’s Organisation (AZAPO) – the leader of the country’s black consciousness movement, will at its 22nd National Congress on 6-7 December 2014, chart the way forward for the Organisation and its role in South African politics. “AZAPO stands at a crossroads and National Congress will convene to deliberate on the choices available to reinvigorate the party and make it a fighting force for black people of this country, the poor and the marginalized. 20 years after “freedom” , key demands of our liberation struggle such as the repossession of the land and it fair and equitable distribution remain unattained. Instead the country faces a threat of descending into the abyss of corruption, ineptitude , lack of accountability and cronyism . Building a fighting force for our people will form the basis of AZAPO’s turnaround strategy” said President of AZAPO, Jake Dikobo . “As the reality for Black South Africans continues to deteriorate, it is unacceptable that a party such as AZAPO, with an unblemished history of struggle - an organisation directly associated with Steve Biko – could be forestalled from carrying through its historical mission. Thus Congress will ,among others, consider: • What is to be done to re-engineer AZAPO into an organisation of choice in the era of electoral democracy? • What makes the masses love the BC message and AZAPO politics, yet be reluctant to back that with voting AZAPO? • How to curb the descent of the country into the abyss of corruption, ineptitude , lack of accountability, nepotism and cronyism • How to work with like-minded organisations in building meaningful and radical democracy that will lead to far-reaching changes and the elimination of deep-rooted causes of racism, poverty, marginalization and landlessness. Critical to the implementation of an agreed upon turnaround strategy will be the election of a leadership that is able to rise to the challenge of reinvigorating the party while re-focusing it on its historical mission” concluded Cde Dikobo. Media are invited to the open sessions. Congress will be held as follows: Date: 6-7 December 2014 Venue: Atteridgeville Community Hall, Cnr Hlahla & Ramokgopa Streets, near Police Station Time: 10h00 Theme: Black Power, Land and Liberation Issued by AZAPO For any other information please contact: Cde Lawrence Molai Secretary General azapocomms@gmail Participate in this conversation at: https://twitter/AZAPO_News
