#AZFire Mud Fire Now at 250 Acres (Mud Wildfire): WILLIAMS, AZ – 10 miles south of Williams, the lightning ignited Mud Fire has grown to 250 acres in size. The fire perimeter is 40 percent active with new growth mainly to the southwest and east within the 7,700 acre planning area. Today, fire managers conducted 50 acres of managed ignitions along FS road 3209 in the Rocky Ridge area south of Summit Mountain. These ignitions, along the northern boundary of the 2009 Cross Fire, help ensure the Mud Fire perimeter does not spread outside of the planning area. Fire behavior today remained low intensity with 6-12 inch flame lengths. The Mud Fire planning area was developed with resource benefit to multiple objectives including maintaining a fire-adapted ecosystem and protecting cultural resources and wildlife habitat.
