Aam Aadmi Party sells onions at Rs 40 per kg At a time when prices of onion has skyrocketed, currently selling at almost Rs. 60-80 per kg in open market across the national capital, Aam Aadmi Party candidate from Ballimaran Farhana Anjum setup several stalls today across her constituency bringing the commodity back to the dining table of the common man. Onions, which is an essential commodity, is being sold at a very nominal price of Rs. 40 across these stalls, brining relief to many families living in the area. More than 10000 kgs of onions sourced from various mandis of Delhi like Azadpur have already been sold on a cost to cost basis in these stalls at Rs 40. People have been queuing up at the stalls since 8am in the morning. The demand has been so high that more onions are being sourced from various mandis. Nearly 10 stalls have been set up in different areas of Ballimaran like Nabi Karim, Gali Tel Mel, Multani Handa etc for this purpose. AAP’s candidate from Ballimaran Farhana Anjum said, “Onion is an essential commodity and its price affects the day to day life of common man irrespective of whichever community he belongs to. Many people in this constituency come from a poor background. These stalls have benefitted so many families, both Muslims and Hindus, especially with the festival of Rakshabandhan ahead this week.” The Delhi Government has failed to take preventive measures, which has led to the steep increase in the price of onion brining tears in the eyes of common man. Recently, the prices of onions had touched Rs 80 per kg. Unfortunately, the government did little to shield aam aadmi of Delhi from this inflation. Today Aam Aadmi Party’s effort has showed that this essential commodity can be sold at a very low price of Rs 40. This poses a serious question - if AAP can sell onions at such an affordable price then why can’t the Delhi Government? What is refraining the Government from taking strict measures to stop middlemen from making huge profits? It has been reported that Government has set up outlets through which it is selling onions at a lower cost. The common man wants to ask the Government what was it waiting for till now, why did they not take preventive measures earlier? Inflation or price rise is a direct result of corruption. When AAP comes to power it will put in place all measures to check out corruption so that prices, especially of essential commodities, automatically comes down.
