Abbey library of Saint Gallen, Switzerland. Located in the Abbey of Saint Gall, the monastic library was founded on 719. The library was designed in the rococo style by Austrian architect Peter Thumb in the 18th century. The library is one of the earliest monastic libraries in the world. It has over 160,000 books and manuscripts in its collection, some dating back to the 8th century. 2,100 of these books were handwritten and 400 are over 1,000 years old. -Lady Georgiana
