Abbott isnt a lunatic - hes just really into neo-liberalism and has been bought out by super wealthy corporations and people working for banks, which have links to himself and his colleagues. His ideals are very similar (although, at the same time, not nearly as bad as the Republican Party of the USA -> which, at one point, owned more than 50% of the worlds wealth). But, yeah, the current system is messed up and has been messed up for thousands of years now. I mean, its absolutely possible for everyone to own a house to live in, to live on renewable energy, to grow their own food, to drink clean water, to receive medical help for anything and for there to still be plenty of space left for the rest of the environment to thrive without native species being driven to extinction. That aint going to happen under the current world global system, which is an evolvement of the past system of aristocracy and monarchy; A system in which people inherit their wealth and some people are always gonna be rich and the majority of people are always gonna live in poverty and only outliers have the means to climb up or down that ladder of class. The current system is based on competition and interest rates. This is problematic cos its not going to result in the best possible outcomes for people, the environment, morality and art. The system just doesnt allow for that kinda flexibility. For example, some countries are never going to have the resources to compete in this global game if you get rid of moves like oil. (Snowy/sunny) desert countries that cant provide food for themselves all year round have traditionally traded gas, coal and oil for food - so it doesnt make sense that theyd want to switch to renewables. I mean, WHY would you choose to let the majority of your people starve to death in order to make the world cleaner when you could be a polluter and less of your people would die from natural disaster over time? Hmm. The answer is that you probably wouldnt. Hence, one reason why the current system doesnt work. A good system is a fair one but also one that celebrates and works with peoples differences. 9news.au/world/2014/11/20/07/59/russell-brand-takes-aim-at-world-politics-in-new-book
