When two years ago, at the Grand Prix du Chartres finals, the first participant in the Improvization category (the contest was an anonymous one) played the first few sounds, I realized that only people could play like that: Thierry Escaich and Baptiste-Florian Marle-Ouvrard. It couldn’t be Escaich, who was sitting on the panel. So it had to be Baptiste-Florian. I’m proud that Baptiste-Florian is one of our competition winners. But truth be told, he’s never one of. He’s always the one and only. He can bring forth incredible sounds from his instrument. At times, especially when he’s improvising or playing contemporary music, it’s as though the organ was no organ, but some magic flying machine that can simply take you away. And that’s essentially what happens to the audience during his concerts. I’m a witness. I’ve been onboard some of those flights. And there’s another special thing about this man: he’s fond of actual flying machines. Airplanes. He likes flying them and is licensed to (this year, he graduated from a professional flying school, after many years as an amateur pilot).youtu.be/3KfRHHkfifE
