Abhedyo anubdata tapdhasunrita priyadarshana bahusrutha kalavedi jnatagrandho ardhashastravit Anadana rogino yashcha putravat samupacharet Guruna samanupjnata sa bhishak shabdamashnutah Abhedyo means the one who cannot be defeated in a debate or discussion denoting the knowledge as well as presentation of ones knowledge Anubdhata means who is famous with all the siddhi Tapdhata - Chirakari means who thinks before he acts Sunrita - Sukhopagamaniya who speaks sweet but truthful Priya darshana - well dressed (does not mean that it should be a costly dress or any particular dress but simply presentable and clean) Bahusrutha - learned many sciences Kalavedi - having updated knowledge about science or Ayurveda or having knowledge about the different stages of diseases. Jnatagrandho - one who has textual knowledge Ardhashastravit - having knowledge about recent policies of health Anadana rogino yashcha putravat samupacharet - means one who take cares of the patients as his own child guruna samupajnata - such doctors will be recognised by the guru sa bhishak shabdam ashnute - and will be called as bhishak or Vaidya This is a beautiful sloka from Ashtanga sangraha which I still remember studying for the sake of exams but now I could feel the meaning of the sloka.. I hope all the Vaidyas understand the meaning and imbibe it so as to provide the best out of their knowledge. I had an experience regarding a lab today .. I wanted to send my patient for some diagnostic test and called up the lab and they gave us an appointment for 10.30 am I did not mention I am calling form Chakrapani Ayurveda nor I am a doctor as we are not interested in any sort of incentives for the lab, later when my patient reached the lab at 10.30 am the people at the lab seeing the prescription from our clinic call us and told me that you can send the patient at 1 pm as our doctor will come only at 1pm - 3pm. I said I have already taken the appointment for my patient.. they where saying me you should have mentioned you where from Chakrapani Ayurveda and is a doctor. So this is only a diagnostic center working this way ... a common man without any recommendation and education how is he supposed to get value added service and value for his time and money? I personally think that all the people who are working in health sector should know the meaning of the above sloka especially the line which says we should take care of our patient as our own child..
