You will work on advancing elements within the Indigenous People s Strategy, one of the many 2013-2017 City Council Initiatives. This will be accomplished by planning and implementing projects, events, and various other emerging initiatives. Here is what your new career has in store: Build culturally sensitive working relationships between senior organization leaders, City Councilors. and Aboriginal groups in the community Assist in the planning and implementation of events with high public profile which meet deadlines and align with the strategic direction of the organization Compile, gather and research related materials that inform best practices and trends facing Aboriginal communities Assist in the preparation of Council reports, presentations, and content for print and web use To visualize what it is like to be on our team, visit The City of Edmonton Talent Hub Qualifications: A University Degree in Recreation Administration, Political Science, Public Relations or Aboriginal Studies Three years experience in the field of community development, including event management and public relations Knowledge of Aboriginal history, culture, challenges and treaties/memorandums is an asset Ability to represent organizational interests while building sound working relationships between stakeholders Ability to gather, synthesize, and present information orally and in writing Knowledge of computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google Mail, Calendar and Docs) is required The successful candidate will be required to obtain a satisfactory Edmonton Police Service Police Information Check Certificate from the Police Information Check Section located at #108, 14315 118 Avenue. This can usually be obtained with only a single visit to the Police Information Check Section Applicants will be required to arrange their own transportation and where appropriate will be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This may require the applicant to obtain business auto insurance Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program. Salary Range: 21M, Salary Grade: 019, $32.370 - $40.687 (Hourly). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
