About 10 years ago I was working at Penguin, and I picked up a hardcover that was lying on the free book table. It was a translation of St. Teresa of Avilas monumental mystical work, The Interior Castle. I remember opening the back jacket and looking at the photo of the translator, a woman mysteriously named Mirabai Starr. Such a beautiful name for such a beautiful woman! I thought. This Mirabai is no ordinary translator. A few years later I needed a writer for a series of books on the saints and mystics, and I jumped at the chance to hire her for the project. I discovered that my initial instinct was correct: no ordinary translator, she. She herself is a mystic, a deep practitioner, a navigatrix of both the dark and the light. (And a kickass writer to boot, but thats a different story.) In the intervening years I have had the great good luck to call Mirabai one of my dear friends. In those same years, the world has caught wind of what this woman knows, the wisdom she has alchemized into her being after spending so much time with so many of the great mystics: St. John of the Cross, Julian of Norwich, St. Francis of Assisi. But none has been as close to her heart as St. Teresa. Shes about to open the treasure trove of her own personal relationship with St. Teresa through a course shes teaching on the Shift Network. But this Wednesday 11/5 you can get a taste through a free webinar shes offering. This is an event, people! I cant recommend Mirabai highly enough. Hope you are inspired to join, and that it changes you in just the right ways.
