About the 529 death penalty verdict I fully appreciate peoples - TopicsExpress

About the 529 death penalty verdict I fully appreciate peoples reservations, and fear about the application of justice, and that is exactly the point I am trying to make. Those who were caught, tried and sentenced were NOT innocent bystanders who just happened to be walking down the street at that particular time, these were people who went on a bloody rampage for a full two days and two nights, wreaking havoc on unarmed civilians as well as deliberately murdering the police. The innocent bystanders were all cowering at home fearing for their lives and property. Yes, justice is paramount. And the case was being pursued for more than two months. A death penalty is not handed out lightly. In this particular case the crimes are so horrendous that a very strong penalty needed to be applied. It is not for just one murder, it is for fifty plus people who were murdered, over 400 injured, numerous children abducted for ransom, five villages evacuated, ten churches and four mosques burned a museum burned and looted, and fifteen shops burned to the ground. And these seem to be the major crimes, let alone many minor ones as well. Please also note that a number of the accused were sentenced in absentia. When caught they will be brought to a new trial and tried as per the evidence against each one individually. Just because the number is so large, and the way the media handled it, does not mean that the verdict was piecemeal. Each verdict was issued individually, each for his crimes. Why is there nothing said about the sixteen who were found not guilty and were let go? There is a very deliberate attempt at disinformation to ensure public opinion pressure on the judiciary in Egypt. And I tell you that wont happen. They have the majority of Egyptians behind them, for they have lived and endured the atrocities of these terrorists and do know their methods. I hope this is convincing that justice is being observed and that the judiciary are not issuing politicized verdicts.
