Manipuri News Headline Imphal, July 7, 2013 . Properties worth around Rs 1 crore were reduced to ashes when six shops were gutted in a major fire at Thangal bazaar opposite Bank of Baroda under city police station Imphal West yesterday late evening around 8 pm. More than 15 fire tenders were utilised to bring the fire under control. The origin of the fire is suspected to be a short electric circuit in one of the six shops. The six shops include two shops selling ply wood, Colour Paints, two selling mobile phones and providing zerox facilities and another two shops selling electrical appliances. A team of Imphal police lead by S Ibomcha Dy SP Commando Imphal West arrived and along with the City police personal, helped the fire fighters in controlling the fire. Two gas cylinders also exploded during the fire making it even more difficult for the fire fighters to put out the fire. It took around one and half hour before the massive fire was brought under control around 9:30 pm. However, there has been no report of any human casualties till the filling of this report. . Sadar Hills is all set to intensely endorse the Kuki State Demand Committee (KSDC) decision to resume and intensify its stir by imposing general strike and economic blockade from 5 am of July 8 to 5 pm of July 9 and subsequently followed by an economic blockade stir till 5 pm of July 11 along the National Highway 2 within Sadar Hills. The four IRB personnel arrested for their involvement in the alleged Khuga Dam molestation case were yesterday remanded to three days of police custody by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Churachandpur. The death body of (L) Lunminsiam Guite, 20 son of Lunkhopau Guite reached Lamka around 3:00 pm accompanied by family and leaders of several organizations. A skeleton, suspected to be that of a Japanese soldier killed during the Second World War, was found while digging the earth at Phubala village in Bishnupur district yesterday. It may be noted here that many parts of Bishnupur district including Moirang and Phubala had witnessed fierce battle between the Japanese and the British forces during the Second World War. A war memorial has been constructed in memory of the slain Japanese soldiers at Maiba Lokpa Ching, which is about 10 km to the north of Phubala. It is said that though the skeleton recovered is believed to be that of a Japanese soldier, it would be first sent for examination by the experts for confirmation. . As part of the steps being taken up to widen all important roads in the State starting right from the Highways, the State Government has sent a proposal for upgradation of Jiribam-Churachandpur Road to the centre for approval, Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar has informed. The Minister was speaking as Chief Guest of the foundation stone laying ceremony for a RCC Bridge which is to be constructed over Khuga River to connect Lamjangphai and Thingchom in Churachandpur district yesterday. The Minister said that the State Government is planning to improve the condition of the roads in the State, both in the hills and the plains along with widening them to facilitate connectivity. The road widening process will start from the National Highways to make it 100 feet wide in the residential areas and 150 feet along the stretch of non-residential areas.
