About this being my new addition to this list of recommended records. I was recommend this record by Matt Beneventi when he worked at Co-op. I remember telling him that day that I wanted to hear something new. I had never Nick Cave at that point. Wow this record grabbed ahold of me and I know it was the only disc I listened to for at least a week. Nick Cave at one point had said that instead of a traditional greatest hits record that if he ever did a greatest hits record it would consist of new songs about murder. And for me, this is a greatest hits record. Outside of Live Seeds, no other record by them has compared to Murder Ballads. All 10 songs non abrasively up the death count to 65, with exception of the last song where no one dies. Think of back when Nick Cave played piano on his records and sings about death.
