About two years ago we were really happy to find out that listening to exhaust pipes is not just our petrolhead mania which mainly comes out of our great love for powerful machines. No, back then we actually discovered a company that uses those cylinders to build really cool speakers that together form a dock for any smart device, whether it’s your phone or a tablet. Dubbed Ixoost, which is the wrong spelling of... well, exhaust, the systems are tailor-made in Modena, Italy and represent the natural step from passion to real life happening. Call us dreamers or nuts, but the idea of listening to music through real car exhausts is even better than making your own music, assuming we’d be able to ever use those digital mixer programs. As we previously reported, you can choose between 4, 6, 8, 10 or even 12 cylinders, with each one of them being a speaker. So far, so good. But why are we writing the same thing again, you might ask. Well, we’re not. It turns out the Italians have recently added a new model to their range of audio docks in the form of the XiLO 5.1 that has been inspired by Formula One race cars. Apart from its looks, the new system also comes with Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, meaning that any Bluetooth equipped smartphone and tablet can now use the dock rather than just iOS smartphones or iPods that are physically docked in the device. “Sometimes you come across an idea that’s so simple that nobody’s ever thought of it. That’s what Ixoost Modena is like: making an exhaust pipe ring out loud and clear, turning it into a design object that binds Italian passion and craftsmanship. Mechanics and Sound to be seen, heard and touched. The very first three-dimensional dock station. Painstaking craftsmanship for the perfect audio experience”, the Italians told Geeky Gadgets. As for the prices, well these puppies won’t come cheap. According to Ixhoost they start at EUR 5,250 ($6,392) with the 4-cylinder system being the cheapest one, but it’s not clear how much the new model will cost once it hits the market, some time next year. We’d sure want one. Source: Auto Evolution. PS: we also listed a presentation video with their previous models, in case you want to take a closer look.
