Absolutely appalled (but not surprised!) at the misrepresentation of the opening of McDonalds Tecoma in the media -they must have bought some serious advertising to secure that!!!! A half page spread on page 4 of Herald Sun I think it was - ironic given that a March against the current Government attracting over 50,000 people was not even mentioned!!!! What the REAL people of Tecoma witnessed on the day was quite a different story which has been summed up beautifully by several residents. Most customers drove up the hill or caught a train up from the flatlands. There were hardly any recognisable locals. The customers had free vouchers and there wouldnt have been more than 80 (mostly teenagers!) queued up for the couple of hours that I was there. On the first day - appalling behaviour was displayed by the customers. There was already a fair amount of litter spread everywhere. The traffic was abysmal all day and several cars were making illegal turns in front of the 30 police who were busy opening doors for McDonalds customers. There was no formal announcement of opening by McDonalds and that timed with the first day of school holidays meant that there was little time for protestors to organise themselves. So there were not as many as we would have liked but the amount of support we got from passing traffic CLEARLY shows that the majority of local people DO NOT want McDonalds in Tecoma. Despite what the papers are telling you. This is the reason I dont read any of the churnalism in any of the papers!!! The real story will surely be portrayed in a movie one day!!!!
