Abu Bakrah reported: A man praised another man in the presence of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, so he said, “Woe to you! You have cut his neck! You have cut his neck! If one of you is to praise his companion, he should say: I consider so-and-so to be good and Allah knows best; I cannot testify to his purity before Allah but he appears to be such-and-such.” Source: Sahih Muslim 3000 Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Imam Muslim عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ مَدَحَ رَجُلٌ رَجُلًا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فَقَالَ وَيْحَكَ قَطَعْتَ عُنُقَ صَاحِبِكَ قَطَعْتَ عُنُقَ صَاحِبِكَ مِرَارًا إِذَا كَانَ أَحَدُكُمْ مَادِحًا صَاحِبَهُ لَا مَحَالَةَ فَلْيَقُلْ أَحْسِبُ فُلَانًا وَاللَّهُ حَسِيبُهُ وَلَا أُزَكِّي عَلَى اللَّهِ أَحَدًا أَحْسِبُهُ إِنْ كَانَ يَعْلَمُ ذَاكَ كَذَا وَكَذَا 3000 صحيح مسلم كتاب الزهد والرقائق باب النهي عن المدح إذا كان فيه إفراط وخيف منه فتنة على الممدوح
