Abusive emails, phone calls and social media messages have - TopicsExpress

Abusive emails, phone calls and social media messages have recently been sent to the Doncaster Free Press as a result of entirely false allegations against one of our reporters. A video which was originally posted online in the summer of 2013, shows a woman destroying floral tributes to the murdered soldier Lee Rigby at a march and wreath-laying by the English Defence League in Sheffield. Both the police and Johnston Press, the owners of the Doncaster Free Press, investigated the matter at the time and found that the woman in the video was NOT reporter Sarah Marshall, as has been falsely alleged on Facebook and blog sites. Nearly a year later a link to the video and the same false allegations about Sarah Marshall have been re-posted on a blog and on Facebook and subsequently shared with many social network site users. This has resulted in more abusive and threatening messages being sent to the newspaper. These messages have been, and will continue to be, reported to South Yorkshire Police. Neither Sarah Marshall or the Doncaster Free Press condones in any way the actions of the woman shown in the video.
