Accepting the book challenge from Lei & Abigail. Rule: Dont take more than a few minutes and do not think hard. They dont have to be the right books or great work of literature, just ones that have affected you in some way. Then tag 10 friends including me so I can see your list. 1) Sweet Valley Twins & Sweet Valley High – Francine Pascal & Jamie Suzanne *These introduced me to pleasure reading and I must admit that my grades could have been better during elementary if I hadn’t been too addicted to these. 2) Earth & Geography – Encyclopedia Britannica *I was extremely interested with continents, countries and their capitals when I was kid. And this is why I do have a little idea how Neo got his knack for the subject. Only, he started way earlier and he is definitely way much better. 3) Message from Nam – Danielle Steel *They do say that misery loves company and because Danielle Steel is the master of writing about life’s dramas, her books became my companion during those times when I needed to feel that I wasn’t alone in my fight. 4) Dekada ’70 – Lualhati Bautista *The book that piqued my interest in what could be the most dramatic moment in Philippine politics. One which I was born to witness, but too young to understand. This influenced me to research more about the Marcos regime, Ninoy’s assassination, the truth behind the People Power Revolution and yes…the opulent lifestyle and excesses of Imelda Marcos. 5) A Knight in Shining Armor – Jude Deveraux *My favorite among the countless romance novels I’ve read. Need I say more? Every teenager must have had their Precious Hearts Romances phase. Only mine has to have kings, princes, knights, warriors and Vikings. What can I say? The people of the middle ages invented romance! 6) Sphere – Michael Crichton *Marriage put an end to my romance fiction phase. I guess this is how a woman wakes up to the reality that only girls believe in fairy tales and that time travel and “wormholes” in space are much more likely to exist than a real-life prince whose sole purpose is to sweep me off my feet. 7) The biographies of Diana Spencer, Marilyn Monroe, Jackie Kennedy Onassis and Greta Garbo. *My fashion icons and women who inspire me to find my true identity and embrace my own uniqueness, instead of trying to be someone else. And since we’re being honest here, I just might have read the biographies of Britney Spears, Madonna and Jennifer Lopez too. 8) The Diary of Anne Frank *This triggered my fascination with the Holocaust and the atrocities of Hitler & his Nazi Party. The genocide of six million European Jews will forever haunt me and for me is proof that the devil truly exists here on earth. 9) The Tarot Handbook and Books of the Occult *After experiencing several strange and supernatural occurrences first-hand, seeking answers had always come as a second nature to me. And I must admit that my enlightenment about some of these mysteries has made these phenomena less scary. 10) The Book of Revelation - The Holy Bible – John the Apostle *In our world and times, keeping our faith is no easy feat. But reading about the events that will unfold in the final battle between good and evil was a humbling experience and a true test of my faith. Passing this challenge on to Joy, Lea, Rheena, Jane, Cherina, Patricia, Sheilah, Rybigail, Kim and Prissy. Have fun, guys!:)
