According to a recent Colorado State University clinical study, racehorses lose up to 2% of their weight - or at least 20 lbs. - before a race when injected with furosemide (Lasix). Now, a jock has to weigh in before a race & after a race. And his or her weight (complete with saddle) better not change. Or the results of the race will change. But, for a horse to come in 20 lbs. lighter? Thats okay? You dont think that 20 lbs. makes a difference over, say, a mile? Youre goddamned right it does! And what is that weight-loss in a horse? Water. Hydration. And, as in two-leggeds, dehydration causes extra strain on a horses heart. Sure, racing industry - keep weighing your jocks. But look the other way when it comes to the horses. Youre jeopardizing your athletes. And if you continue to do that, you are fools.
