According to various sources, the hymn Amazing Grace is sung in more languages and has been recorded more times than any other song in human history. It has been featured in various movies from westerns to Star Trek II, and remains the favorite hymn of many. Its message is simple, Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me... John Newton, the songs writer, was a slaver captain and as the story goes, became under the convicting power of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the great evil of the slave trade. After quitting the slave trade, he became an outspoken voice to outlaw the practice in Great Britain, after he had penned the words to the hymn by candlelight. The story continues that the music to the song actually came from the songs of the enslaved Africans from a certain tribe along the west coast. William Wilberforce, a member of Parliament, was touched by the teachings of his minister, John Newton, and became a fierce opponent of the British slave trade. He would often sing this hymn within chamber of Parliament as a testimony to Gods grace and forgiveness and the evils of the slave trade. It is a great way to begin the work week, for whatever we face this week pales in comparison to what Jesus faced on the cross. Listen and be blessed as you listen to the Celtic Woman performance of this great hymn of the faith. https://youtube/watch?v=HsCp5LG_zNE
