Stop by Shelter 1 for this lunch and learn. Wednesday 7/10: 11AM Tree Cookies – Ever wondered what tree rings can tell us? Come by shelter 1 for this craft with tree “cookies”. Lunch and learn. Thursday 7/11: 11AM Creepy Crawlies – Want to know more about our six-legged invertebrate friends? Stop by Shelter 1 for this lunch and learn! 4PM Insect Crafts – Make a winged insect magnet! All materials are provided. Shelter 1. Friday 7/12: 11AM Star Stories – Come and listen to ancient Greek stories about the stars. Meet at shelter 1, and feel free to bring your lunch. 2PM Star Charts – Get ready for Saturday night’s stargazing by making your own star chart! All materials are provided. Shelter 1. 4PM Venomous Snakes of Tennessee – Want to know how to tell venomous snakes from nonvenomous snakes? Unfamiliar with the venomous snakes we have in Tennessee? Then stop by shelter 1! No live snakes. Saturday 7/13: 10AM Sumner County History Series – Part 1 by Bill Puryear, renowned Sumner County historian and artist. For further information call Sharon at 615-347-3639. At maintenance building at the end of Deer Run Rd. 10AM Caterpillar Meet & Greet + Crafts – Stop by Shelter 1 to meet some of our park’s tiny (and not so tiny) residents and have some fun with insect crafts and nature paper! Kid-friendly alternative to the history lecture! 2PM Insect Collecting 101 – Want to start an insect collection? Unsure of where to start and what to do? Stop by Shelter 1 for a brief overview. 4PM Star Stories – Come and listen to Native American stories about the stars. Meet at shelter 1. Dark – Star Gazing hosted by the Cumberland Astronomical Society. Meet by Shelter 2. Telescopes will be set up in the field. All events are free and open to the public!!!
