Acts 24:14-16 Believe It All A popular notion today is that if one is to have academic respectability, then he must not take everything that is written in the Bible at its literal face value, especially concerning the Bibles account of a seven-day creation, the historicity of Adam and Eve, the universal flood, the miracles surrounding the Exodus, the prophecies of Daniel, the account of Jonah being swallowed by the fish, and so forth. No, one cannot proclaim that he believes everything written in the Scriptures to be absolutely true-without any error or embellishment-and still keep in good standing with the majority of the Bible scholars who are being churned out of todays colleges and seminaries. Neither will a true believer of the Word find acceptance in a church where the Bibles miracles and commandments are conveniently explained away and where the Bible is continually corrected, updated, and improved by the wide array of contradictory Bible versions that seek to interpret rather than translate Gods Word. Nevertheless, you will find yourself in very good company if you maintain your steadfast faith that everything contained in the Word is true. The apostle Paul believed this, as his unflinching testimony before Felix clearly reveals (v.14 cf. 26:22; 28:23). Our Lord Jesus, too, believed all the Old Testament, referring time and again to the Scriptures as the source of all divine authority and truth (Matt.12:39-41; 19:8; Lk.20:37; 24:25-27, 44; Jn.5:39, 45-47). If we must choose between following Christ and the apostles or following the liberal theological scholars of our day, the decision should not be difficult. Believe all of Gods Word and stand firm in your faith! DWC
