Men, through the years, evolved to be single-taskers because a primitive man had to push everything out of his mind to single mindedly fulfil the pursuit of hunting. This single-mindedness makes them slower to get into an emotional state and slower to get out of it, once they get there. Since emotions are harder for men to deal with and recover from, most men do not talk about their feelings. Instead they choose an escape activity that gives them something to do. The single-minded focus on ‘doing’ makes it easier for them to bypass their emotions. Most women, on the other hand, need to talk out their emotional experience. They need to process what is happening and why. In the middle of an emotional crisis, they are more likely to seek activities that connect them with other people.
