Acts of the Long Parliament: -Bill of the Attainer: Declaring the Earl of Strafford and Achrbishop William Laud as catholic conspirators and traitors. Both were excecuted(1641, 1645) -Abolishment of thorough, Star Chamber,The Court of High Commission: Thorough was seen as the catholic revamp of the Anglican Church, while Star Chamber and High Commission were seen as direct threats to noble rule in their lands, alongside taxes not agreed to by Parliament. Royal appointing to parliament and office also ended. -Anglican Church- Actions and bills were passed by the Parliament to remove bishops from office and reduce the hierarchy of the Church. -Privy Council- Many catholic leaders lost power and the Kings personal council came under attack. Notes between the King and his ministers had to be presented to Parliament regularly. -Habeas Corpus and the Triennial Acts- These were based in the English Bill of Rights(formed to check to the power of the king!) Basic rights of citizenship, trial, and captivity were established. American Patriots have been known to quote or go back to these documents in framing the US Constitution. -Grand Remonstrance- Response to the eleven years tyranny. The King was charged with violating noble and common right. Among the charges, the Parliament gave 150 reasons to arrest the king, including the charge of conspiring to return the government to catholic hands, working on a french coalition to attack protestants, and especially the fact that Charles married Queen Maria, the catholic of France! -Militia Ordinence- Gave the Parliament control of the recruiting of troops in common and noble lands -Execution Jan 30, 1649- The rump parliament found Charles guilty of treason after the Civil wars were fought. Under Cromwell -Instrument of Government-abolished catholics from government and set of the basis for republican elections. This constitution eliminated all royal influences -Dissolution- Cromwell claimed that Parliament was acting against the will of the people and even some in the fight for Catholics. A protectorate was set up where Cromwell ruled in the power of the Army. Men like Edmond Ludlow, John Pym,John Hampden, and William Lenthall had been main figures in Puritan actions but were exiled or attacked as anti-Cromwellians.
