Add another quality noodle joint to the ever-growing list. We finally got a chance to try a fairly new eatery in Little Tokyo, Maruya Ramen. Unlike ramen faves Shin Sen Gumi, Men Oh Tokushima and mainstay Diakokuya, Maruya Ramen features a full menu of Japanese dishes like teriyaki, tempura and pork katsu. The problem with noodle joints having too diverse a menu, the ramen tends to suffer. Not at Maruya. I had the Tonkotsu Ramen with a chasu donburi. We ordered the age dashi tofu appetizer, which was wonderful... light, fluffy, not oily like some restaurants. What about the ramen? The broth was rich with pork flavor, not overpowering and too rich. The noodles were cooked medium, with a bit of a snap. I would put Maruya Ramen 3rd in Little Tokyo behind #1 Men Oh and #2 Shin Sen Gumi.
